Miniature Lop Rabbits

Miniature lop rabbits make cute pets. They can live for almost ten years. Responsibility can be learned by the kids in having one of these rabbits, however, the adult should still be the one who takes the total care to ensure that the animals are in good condition.  Here are some of the things that one should know before deciding to adopt a mini lop rabbit.

Because of there extreme cuteness, those who cup the rabbit on their hands may have the tendency to tighten their grip around it. However, these bunnies are not very friendly when they are mad or hurt. They have attacking instincts and wouldn’t care if you are a kid. It is best to guide a kid when playing with the animal.

Their major diet component is grass or timothy hay. Rabbit pellets may be a substitute and should be served plainly, meaning without fruits or nuts. If ever they may have eaten something that they shouldn’t have, they may get diarrhea. Also, their water bottle should always be refilled since they need water all the time.

Cleanliness is on their traits. They clean themselves the way cats do, but if they get smelly and dirty, a quick bath wouldn’t hurt. Bathing a bunny is difficult since they are not fond of the being in the water too much. Brush their fur after drying them out with a towel. You may also need to cut their nails and clean their ears. Just like dogs, the bunny’s nails have a sensitive part. So, you should stay away from the pink area to avoid hurting them. When cutting their nails, put them in an upside down position while keeping out a good grip. Cutting their nails is as difficult as giving them a bath.

Being in a cage all day may bore them and keep them fat. Let them loose sometimes and allow them to run around the house. Let them have an exercise. Just be sure you look out for them in case a bigger animal might want to run after them.  Keep your other pets, like dogs away since it is possible for the dogs to chase and bite the bunny and may lead to the bunny’s death.

Your mini lop is an attention-seeker, so you should allot a play time with him or her. Showing off makes them happy, but picking them up while they are playing doesn’t. Just wait for the bunny to initiate a sign for you to touch him. If he or she hops on your lap, then he or she is giving you the go signal.

Since these animals value cleanliness, it is best to keep their cages clean everyday. Their urine carries a really stinky smell and they don’t like the smell either. Buy a cage that has a removable pan below; it will make the cleaning process much easier. With this cage, they won’t be able to sit on their droppings or urine. However, this cage has wires for the floor. A bunny board may help protect the feet of the mini lop and is readily available in a lot of pet shops.
